There are enough people who are fans of Overkill (like myself), people who are scared of the banhammer boogieman, and people who want the proper dick waving experience of owning a rare skin (as in, you can really see it in your inventory and not just in game) that Overkill could probably completely ignore this and their bottom line wouldn't suffer too much.Īt first, it's Lua and not LUA. Another way would be to simply block hooks, but I have a feeling that the way the game executable works, the hook works, and the Lua logic code works is such that any changes to block script hooks would require a complete code rewrite on such a scale that it wouldn't be profitable for them in the long term.

The simple way would be to require an internet connection to access the DLC content, but then you run into a typical "always online" complaint from customers. If they're smart they'll put in proper authentication for DLC/Skins. Hell, I could theoretically script together entire custom decks and trees to go alongside the existing ones if I wanted too.Īs far Overkill fixing this.I'm not sure. I'm thinking of moving up to altering the balance of the skill trees and perk decks as well. Im working on an overhaul of the game's entire weapon balance at the moment just for kicks, and it's shockingly easy to do, even as someone as code illiterate as I am. The bad side of this is how trivial it is to bypass the DLC/skin authentication and cheat, but the flip side is that it allows the community to write a lot of cool gameplay changing scripts and tweaks. Payday 2's game logic is coded entirely in Lua, and since the first game it's been easy to crack open the source and change just about any element of the game you want. There is already "DLC unlockers" for Payday 2 that allows you to access DLC content without paying, so I don't know how Overkill did not see this coming. I think this is just another reason why microtransaction are just flat out bad for Payday 2. For people who play TF2, it is like having a uncraftable/untradable weapon added to your inventory.

However, these skins do not appear in your steam inventory, so you wont be able to sell them for real money. You do not get flagged as a cheater, and Overkill is unable to ban you from Payday 2. It is a flat out bypass for the entire microtransaction system. Other players are able to see the weapon skins you unlocked via this method, so this is not a reskin mod to "fake" that you have the skins. It effectively adds all the weapon skins to your profile that you would normally need to pay money to unlock.

You unlock "safes" buy purchasing "drills" with real money and you get a weapon skin, with the possibly of it having stat boosts.īut that entire system is almost useless thanks to a mod for Payday 2. In case you guys are out of the loop, Overkill recently added a Crate system to Payday 2 simlar to that of CS:GO and TF2. I will not be posting the link to the mod itself.
